Educators for Every Kid: Canvass with Families Not Politics
I've spent my career in classrooms, and if there's one thing I know for certain, it's this: kids learn better when they feel like they belong. That's not a slogan. It's what the research shows, and it's what I've watched happen year after year. The kid who finally speaks up in class once they feel safe. The kid who tries out for a team once they know they won't be singled out. Belonging isn't separate from learning. It's the foundation of it. That's why I'm asking you to join me for an afternoon of canvassing. Propositions 134 and 135 sound simple on the ballot. They are not simple in practice. 134 would open the door to invasive verification for any kid, in any sport, at any age, not just the kids proponents claim to be targeting. 135 would let politicians, not parents and doctors, decide what medical care a family is allowed to get for their child. Neither of these measures builds belonging. Both of them tell kids that some of them have to prove they deserve to be there. Here's what to expect: we'll gather, get a quick training and a script, and head out in pairs to knock doors and talk with neighbors. You do not need any canvassing experience, just show up. We'll pair new folks with someone who's done this before, and everything you need will be in your hands before you knock your first door. Come canvass with me. Bring a friend.
